Preparation for Gastroscopy
*IMPORTANT* As you will receive IV sedation, you will not be permitted to drive after the procedure and the remainder of the day, . You must have an adult companion to drive you home or accompany you in a taxi. If you do not have an adult companion, your procedure may be cancelled. You will be here for approximately 2 hours on the day of your procedure.
MEDICATION ADJUSTMENT:
Stop 7 days prior - Aspirin (ASA 81mg, Entrophen), Iron Tablets, Xarelto
Stop 5 days prior - Coumadin, Pradaxa
Stop 3 days prior - Ticlopidine (Ticlid), Clopidogrel (Plavix), Aggrenox
Diabetic Medication:
1 Day before the procedure take 1/2 usual dose of Diabetic medications.
Don't take any medications on the day of the procedure until after procedure, with food.
Hypertension Medication:
Continue taking blood pressure medications as normal, even on the day of your procedure, with a small sip of water. Do not drink any more than a small sip. It is important that your blood pressure remains under control.
PREPARATION
The night before your procedure
- Stop eating solid food from midnight before the procedure.
The day of your procedure
- Stop drinking liquids 3 hours before the procedure.
** You may take your usual medications with a sip of water.
**STOP ALL LIQUIDS 3 HOURS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE**
