*IMPORTANT*

As you will receive IV sedation, you will not be permitted to drive after the procedure and the remainder of the day.  You must have an adult companion to drive you home or accompany you in a taxi.  If you do not have an adult companion, your procedure may be cancelled.  You will be here for approximately 2 hours on the day of your procedure.

 

Please bring a list of all medications you are taking to your appointment.

 

 

DIETARY RESTRICTION:

 - 3 days prior to the procedure, no nuts, multigrain, berries, grapes or seeds

 - 1 day prior to the procedure, no solid food.  Drink clear liquids only (at least one glass every hour) up until 3 hours prior to your procedure. 

A clear liquid diet should include more than water.  In addition to water, other examples of clear liquids included tea or coffee without milk/cream, clear juice without pulp, eletrolyte drinks, broth and clear jello.  NO RED / PURPLE DRINKS OR ALCOHOL.

MEDICATION ADJUSTMENT:

 

Stop 7 days prior -  Aspirin (ASA 81mg, Entrophen), Iron Tablets, Xarelto

Stop 5 days prior -  Coumadin, Pradaxa

Stop 3 days prior -  Ticlopidine (Ticlid),  Clopidogrel (Plavix),  Aggrenox

 

Diabetic Medication:

1 Day before the procedure take 1/2 usual dose of Diabetic medications.

Do not take any medications on the day of the procedure until after procedure, with food.

Hypertension Medication:

Continue taking blood pressure medications as normal, even on the day of your procedure, with a small sip of water.  Do not drink any more than a small sip.  It is important that your blood pressure remains under control.

Purchase at Pharmacy:  One (1) Bi-Peglyte kit, (contains 2 sachets of Bi-Peglyte + 3 bisacodyl tablets) NO SUBSTITUTIONS

TO PREPARE THE SOLUTION:

​

In the morning on the day before your procedure, pour the contents of one sachet of Bi-Peglyte powder, into one litre of water.  Mix thoroughly. Repeat with the second sachet into a second litre of water. Mix thoroughly. You will now have TWO LITRES of Bi-Peglyte solution. Put the solution in the fridge.

THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE:

2pm -  3x 5mg BISACODYL TABLETS (take with water)

6pm - 1 litre of Bi-Peglyte solution. Rapidly drink a glassful of solution every 10-15 minutes

            until full 1 litre is finished

ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE:

4 hours prior to the procedure - 2nd litre of Bi-Peglyte. Rapidly drink a glasful of solution every 10-15 minutes until the second litre is finished ( No solid food today until AFTER the procedure)

**FOR CONSTIPATED PATIENTS OR REPEAT COLONOSCOPY PATIENTS:

Due to poor bowel preparation, you will need a 4 litre jug of PEGLYTE plus 3 BISACODYL tablets. 

Follow the instructions below:

 

THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE:

2pm -  3x 5mg BISACODYL TABLETS (take with water)

6pm - 1.5 litre of  Peglyte solution. Rapidly drink a glassful of solution every 10-15                        minutes until full 1 litre is finished

9pm - 1.5 litre of Peglyte solution. Rapidly drink a glassful of solution every 10-15 minutes              until the second 1.5 litre is finished

ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE:

4 hours prior to the procedure - 1 litre of  Peglyte. Rapidly drink a glassful of solution every 10-15 minutes until the remaining 1 litre is finished ( No solid food today until AFTER the procedure)

​    **STOP ALL LIQUIDS 3 HOURS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE**

• Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment

• Bring all medications to your appointment

• Arrange an adult to drive you home or accompany you in public transit

• You are not allowed to drive and have alcohol after your procedure and for the remainder of the day.
